A “doomsday” seed vault built to protect millions of food crops from climate change, wars and natural disasters opened Tuesday deep within an Arctic mountain in the remote Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard.
Russian Folk Hollywood
Illustrations by artist Andrey Kuznetsov envision Hollywood blockbusters as Russian folk fairy tales. Awesome way to turn pop culture into art. More after the jump. Link

Oscar Night
Paul Thomas Anderson got ripped off. While No Country was an excellent movie, it did not have the weight and sheer impact of There Will Be Blood. It seem so much like the academy has a system, a formula that they follow. The Coens were owed an Oscar and so they got a few. Daniel Day-Lewis rightfully won best actor, but Paul seems to have been put on the waiting list. The problem with that is that...
Watching the Oscars. I guess I’m still a pop culture whore. Oh well, you can’t completely escape your heritage.
Hiding in the bathroom, using up the internet.
Oh moped, why do you grow farther away from me the closer I draw myself unto you.
(via Google Video) Flight of the Conchords film their first documentary “Texan Odyssey”. These guys are quickly becoming my favorite thing in comedy. Listen to a bunch of their stuff here.
It’s a good day when something like the Mustache Wheel comes into existence. http://vimeo.com/714925
Watching the eclipse last night in the forest made me feel ancient and primitive. I should feel more like moss and less like pavement.

Another day, another fabulous project. We get stuff done.
Hate to quote Huckabee, but ...
zachklein:If we end up with the (tax) rebates, we’re going to borrow the $150 billion from China. And when we turn it into rebates, most people are going to go out and buy some consumables like a pair of shoes that they probably don’t even need, but they’re going to buy them, and they’re most likely an import from China. My point is, whose economy are we stimulating when we do that? My $600 will...
I’m thinking of becoming a pagan. How do you know what to wear to the rituals?
Work. Today.
I desperately want to learn from wiser individuals. I desperately want to apply every good thing I find each day.
I don’t think I have any cynicism in me. And if I had some at some point… I hate...

Getting unblocked and worked up. Wasted time and pent up expression are something that belong in past tense.

name says it all
I dislike indecisiveness but I am drawn to the validity of it.

Putting a pretty face on my unemployment. GPA will be ready soon.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) Mars will be shacking up in your fifth house on the 18th, which means things are about to get a whole lot friskier. The power of your positive aura will be attracting everyone from that hottie at the bar to your neighbor’s nasty Chihuahua, so wipe that demure expression off your face and jump right into whatever gets tossed your way — cell numbers, email...
The Dumbing Of America - washingtonpost.com →
“And more than 40 percent of Americans under 44 did not read a single book — fiction or nonfiction — over the course of a year.” I think it’s up to everyone in their own life to fight the shitty parts of our prevailing culture and try and reverse these trends. I don’t even know that it’s so much fault based, but just having to deal with all these new...
Life and Work and (I quit my job)
Dave: i got all scared yesterday about the future
Dave: and i came to a conclusion about something great
Dave: overall, i think making/having money to buy things gives life worth if you can't spend all of your time making the world a better place
Dave: even if things are trips to europe
Dave: and having/making money should mean a lot
Dave: because not having it, and not being materialistic makes me feel like i'm just being idle
Dave: friends/family, relationships as a whole make day to day things more awesome
Joshua: i think the whole thing is so complex that it is impossible to boil it down
Joshua: 1. you need to make money to survive
Joshua: 2. we are lucky enough to be able to choose how to do that
Joshua: 3. doing things to make the world a better place is in the end very fulfilling, but really anything you choose to do with your life is your choice and should only really matter to you because there probably isn't any universal score card
Joshua: 4. fear rules so many things and i hate living by fear but do it so often
Joshua: 5. relationships make me feel really good because they are validating and are like a drug that can't be duplicated. you give and you get
Dave: mhmm
Dave: i think the goal of having nice things is a totally fair one now, though. after all this internal struggle and wondering if i really want to buy things any more.
Dave: about fear, i'm really afraid of becoming another portlander
Joshua: 6. i think humans naturally gravitate towards things (as far as work related) that are beneficial, things that people will appreciate, so i f you can do something that you are interested in, somehting you have some sort of passion for, you are probably making the world a better place as well as making yourself a better, more content person
Dave: does contentment lead to mediocrity?
Joshua: depends on the definition you are going for
Joshua: the combination is love + passion
Joshua: that is what leads towards "greatness"
Dave: i've got those down, easy.
Joshua: the contentedness i'm talking about is life contentment
Joshua: not being sad at the state of things
Joshua: i think sadness and disappointment lead to mediocrity
Joshua: except in music
Dave: and art
Homeless: Can you build a life from $25? →
vinh: I’ve got the savings and the car, all I need is the job and the apartment. Being halfway there isn’t as bad as I thought before reading this. guy: Adam Shepard had 25 bucks and some clothes when he started his experiment to see if he could crawl out of his self-imposed poverty. In ten months ” … he had moved into an apartment, bought a pickup truck, and had saved close to $5,000.”...

MGMT - “Time To Pretend” Music Video Everyone really should watch this video. I’d been putting it off for a while now even though I’ve been listening to the album and loving it. You can watch the high quality quicktime. Finally saw it on ericlodwick.com
