“Scientists studying voles (mouse-like rodents) discovered that transferring a single gene, the vasopressin receptor, from the monogamous prairie vole into the brain’s reward centre of a promiscuous meadow vole, would cause that meadow vole become monogamous. Meanwhile, Swedish scientists have studied more than 500 twins and their spouses/domestic partners and have come to find that the vasopressin gene seems to have a similar effect on humans. “The researchers found that men with a particular variant of the AVPR1A gene (that codes for vasopressin in humans) scored lower on the bonding questions and were less likely to be married compared to men who did not have the variant…Also, men with two copies of the gene variant were twice as likely to report having had a relationship crisis with their marital spouse or partner in the last 12 months as men without the variant.””

I hadn’t realized that media services were so much cheaper in other modern countries. French citizens get combo package of 100megabit internet/television/telephone for about $45. That’s at least half of what it typically costs US citizens.

I picked this up while listening to this video produced on the McCain technology policy.

This is pretty damn exciting. Ubiquity is a Mozilla Labs project for creating your own mashups on the fly. It uses plain english commands to pull together different web services on the fly. It reminds me of Quicksilver in the way you use a command key to pull up the interface and then you type in commands, except it’s in your browser and you type things like “email this selection to Hope” and it takes the selected text on a web page and opens up my gmail account and inserts the text as well as Hope’s email address and a relevant subject line.

Totally awesome.
